The project ‘The World that We Created’ comprises several series of photographs looking at man made objects and the ways

that man has shaped his environment.  The photographs were taken in 2024 and 2025.  The series include:

Consumables.  These include items of food, trinkets, retail models, furnishings and kitchen utensils.

Dummies.  Tailors’ dummies are featured in this series.  They play an important role in helping to sell clothes or as

museum exhibits.  Many of the photographs were taken in Istanbul.

Costumes.  A costume is defined as outfit worn to create the appearance characteristic of a particular period, person, place,

or thing.  As for the Dummies series above, the photographs here are mainly of historical costumes from Istanbul.

Sculptures.  Making artwork in three dimensions is common to many cultures.  Many depictions are of the human form but

many, particularly from more recent times, are more abstract subject in nature.  Some sculptures are temporary but others are

permanent.  Some are for the home, others are museum pieces while many may be used for decorative purposes in public

buildings.  The sculptures in this series were taken, amongst other places, at the Cookham Sculpture Festival at the Odney

Club, the Summerleaze Scarecrow Festival in Maidenhead, the Orsay Museum in Paris, the aquarium in Valencia, and modern

art galleries in Valencia and Istanbul.

Street Art.  Street art and graffiti and prevalent in many cities. This series depicts such activities and is divided into two

subgroups: Street Art in Paris and Street Art: Valencia and Other Places.

Tombs and Memorials.  Remembering the dead is an important human ritual.  Sometimes tombs and graves are used where

thedead are laid to rest.  In other places, memorials are used, particularly those to commemorate those killed in wars.  Most of

the photographs in this series were taken in either the St. Denis Basilica in Paris (where all the French kings and queens were

entombed), or the famous Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.

All the photographs were taken with digital cameras.
